THE PENGUINS OF BOULDER'S BEACH

Picture
This tiny South African penguin was seen near Simon's Town, in South Africa. They were originally called Jack Ass penguins because the noise they make, sounds like a donkey. Boulders Beach has become their home and it is not clear why or how they arrived here. This pen and ink stippled drawing is very true to both the size and shape of the rocks, relative to the penguins. The texture of the rocks is created by varying the number of dots to create light and dark and the little penguin looks exactly like this in real life. He appears to be alone and looking for something or someone, however in reality there are many other penguins in and around the rocks.

The drawing took about 6 months to complete as the size is quite large, 16 X 20, and required an unimaginable number of dots

It was accepted into The 2016 Sooke Fine Arts Show
