White roses and emerging leaves, all accented by a very dark background.  The roses are 8" x 10" on hot press board that measures 10" x 11.5"

This close-up provides the best illustration I have of how black is done in these drawings.  You can see the value variations from the white of the roses, through the mid-range shade of the leaves to the black of the background shadows.
