Orca can appear and disappear in seconds and will seldomly stay in one area for any length of time. At least I have not had the good fortune to be anywhere they have remained for more than 5 - 10 minutes. When they are in travelling mode they will surface, blow, breathe and dive all in one roll, two or three times in a row and then go to depth for long periods. It is very exciting to get a decent photograph of them.

You can see in this close-up that the water is more detailed and time consuming to do than the actual whale is. The spray has to be left white, while the water behind it needs to be filled in enough to provide a sense of distance, of depth to the picture.
