COLUMBINE

Picture

If you look up the Columbine flower on the Internet you will find it comes in an amazing range of shapes and colours - this particular flower is a red variation.  I have seen other colours but not here on Vancouver Island, at least not that I recall.  I did see a blue variation while hiking in the mountains on the mainland.  The folk name for this flower is 'granny's bonnet' and I think they got the name perfect.  It is the symbol of cuckoldry - well, that's obvious isn't it.

Columbine is a native wildflower.  They are beautiful, they don't come in bunches and when you find one it's a pretty good day.  I plan to do a lot more drawings of wildflowers (currently working on another one I hope to finish within a couple of weeks) as I like wandering around in the shrubberies looking for them.
