BELTED KINGFISHER
SOLD - Art and Music in the Gardens 2014
Forest Lore: Only a fool would kiss a kingfisher!
I have to admit my appreciation of kingfishers actually started in Australia with the Kookaburra. It was only much later I noticed the kingfisher here and said something intelligent like "hey, that looks like a kookaburra" - duh. The little guys are nearly everywhere you go and their song (if you can call it that) is easily recognized although perhaps a tad abrasive. It always sounds like they're annoyed about something. Heck maybe they are - I am. This Belted Kingfisher drawing is a bit of a tribute to Fenwick Lansdowne whose illustrations I always admired.
